I told you what the title was going to be so no busting my chops….
Level 1 is in the books. When I started this 8 weeks ago I wondered what I had gotten myself into. I still wonder that now, but with a sense of excitement to see where I end up with this is all said and done. I have had so much fun and met so many smart, talented people that you would think that some of it will rub off on me eventually. I want to say thank you again to my Level 1 teacher, Josh Funk, a brilliant improviser and helluva nice guy. The bar is set pretty high for Level 2, I must say.
There was another poker game with Kevin Smith this week and I went home a winner, in spirit and in my wallet. I have to reiterate that Kevin is such an approachable, down to earth guy. There were some returners from the last game and Kevin greeted us all as if we were old friends. Of course, he cleaned up last game so I could see why he might be so eager to have us back. This game went much better for me as I was able to work off my initial $100 buy in and leave with $260.
Jason Mewes joined us again, but found the cursed chair and donked out a few times before taking home about $360. That chair had claimed three players before Mewes was able to outlast the bad joo-joo. At one point, Kevin, another player and I were going after a $700 pot. Tensions were high and I was working from a big warchest from some previous shrewd play, but Kevin pulled a full house on the river and the cash. The frustrating part was that I was sharing dealer duties with Kevin again this time and I had dealt that hand. Argh. However, I made him reach acroiss the table for his haul, too. Hee hee…..
It’s incredible to sit there and listen to the stories Kevin has to tell and to watch the way he engages everyone at the table. He is a master storyteller and his dry, self depricating sense of humor always gets a laugh at the end of every story. Unless it’s his turn to play and we’re sitting there waiting while he’s talking about Bruce Willis…geez-us, sir. ;)
Go check out Kevin’s board on his website and read his posts. He’s accessible, witty and always friendly — http://www.viewaskew.com/theboard.
Next week brings Christmas in Hawaii. Aloha.
