Week 16: Without a net

So, last week my travel was delayed due to the high winds and caused me to stay in LA a day. Well, this week I was delayed again, but only for a hour. I eventually got on the plane…only to get right off 20 minutes later due to “bad fuel lines”. The captain himself stood at the front of the plane and told us all about the bad fuel lines and how American strives to be on time blah, blah, blah. The joke’s on him because my flight delayed 3 hours….due to a bad fuse. That’s 2 weeks in a row. Ugh.

When I finally got to Page’s condo in LA, I caught the tail end of a party he was throwing for Kim, and I enjoyed some excellent BBQ chicken and birthday cake. Congrats to Kim who is moving to Salt Lake City with her boyfriend Aaron.

Sunday morning I got up in time for a quick 15 minutes on the treadmill while watching the Dallas Desperados thrash the NY Dragons in the opening game of the Arena Football season. Final score 60-7 that is true domination. Next week is the home opener and we’ll be there, midfield, 6th row.

So when I get to class, we knew our teacher, Sarah Gee, was going to be out of town for a family trip and that we would have a substitute. We didn’t. It was just the 12 of us in the room and I have to stay I am so proud of us for coming together as a group and staying focused. It would have been easy for us to just shrug it off and blow off the class and just show up for the show at 5:00, but we didn’t. We ran through some exercises and worked on our characters for the show and we put show together on our own. No teacher, no help, no net. I am so proud to be a part of this group. I really am.

The show went well. We decided to do 6 2-person scenes and use any leftover time to pay the freeze tag game. I introduced the group to start the show and then went right into my scene with Emilio. The show ran smooth, we were really paying attention to each other and going through the progressions Sarah taught us this level. Second City instructor Mark Warzecha was kind enough to watch our show and provide some notes for us afterwards. Thanks, Mark.

After the show and notes from Mark, I walked do to the Hollywood and Highland complex (where the Oscars are held) to grab some dinner. As I was walking up to the complex, I got a text message from my brother-in-law, Tom, letting me know he and his wife, Kelly, had made it down and enjoyed the show. I had no idea they were there, and told him if he would have called me beforehand I would have been able to meet them for dinner since I was free until my 12:25 am flight out.

While at H&H I saw Danny Bonaduce at Hot Topic shopping for black jeans. I was not shopping for anything, just wasting time. Moving on….

I went back to Second City and watched shows, including “The Pursuit of Truthyness” with my man Joel Veenstra. At 10:30 I was off to the airport for the red eye back. No delays and all shuteye on the way back. I just got in and I’m buckled.

Q & A next weekend. Keep your questions coming in.

Nighty night or is it good morning?
